Why Chiropractic May Be the Key to Easing Your Struggles with Blood Pressure & Headaches

Over the years, I have known a lot of people who relied on their chiropractor to help ease pain and keep them active on a daily basis. At the time, I assumed this was an extra assist.

But if you look closer in current research, chiropractors are actually right in the middle of several areas that impact our day to day health and overall quality of life. Two of these areas are headaches and blood pressure.

Solving Headaches, Tension & Migraine

Headaches are right up there with back pain when it comes to intensity and frequency. And when they hit, there is very little waiting around. Solutions are needed, and they frequently come from chiropractors.

Drawing from 230 peer reviewed articles worldwide, Draxe.com found that chiropractors are helping to cure, prevent and ease headaches and migraines all over the world. A group trial showed 22 percent of the people who had chiropractic treatment for headaches reported the number of their headaches dropped by 90 percent. In the same study, 49 percent said they had a significant reduction in the intensity of pain.

We should also note this is drug free relief, as the chiropractor’s approach seeks relief without medication or surgery.

Help Normalizing Blood Pressure

Research on hypertension, elevated blood pressure, and hypotension, low blood pressure, now shows the success chiropractors are having. The Human Journal of Hypertension reported George Bakris’ work on upper cervical chiropractic adjustments had the same effect as two blood pressure lowering drugs. Plus, the effects of the adjustment lasted more than six months. The participants saw an average 14 mm HG greater drop in systolic blood pressure (the top number) and an average 8 mm Hg greater drop in diastolic blood pressure (bottom number).

In raising blood pressure that is too low, other studies of chiropractic care have shown equal success, raising patients’ levels to normal levels. Experts point out this means the body may be able to create a homeostatic balanced environment once misalignments are corrected by the chiropractor.

If you are struggling with headaches, blood pressure, joint pain, arthritis or other body pain issues, your chiropractor may be able to help.

Visiting the Chiropractor

When you first see the chiropractor, there will be a spinal adjustment to evaluate your spinal health and any pain that you are having. The chiropractor will also do a complete review of your medical history and discuss your daily activities. As the chiropractor diagnoses the problem, the goal will always be to seek pain relief and restore normal activity without medications or surgery.

Together the two of you can work through the issues and, often an ongoing treatment program or regular monitoring will be the solution. If you have tension headaches with treatment you may experience the relief that allows you to keep up your regular schedule and relax a little without ongoing pain.

Or if you have been living with high blood pressure, this could be the opportunity to lower your numbers and build on that with a healthier diet and new exercise and stress relief classes. Whatever it takes to put things back in order will be your chiropractor’s target. Make an appointment now and find out more.
